weren't we a 4-3 under when Saban was here? saw a similar link to what you posted back when comparing what we did with what Carroll ran at SC.

We ran a 4-3 with Saban. It was a special time because we had TWO bookend DE at 6-4 300lbs that could move (Spears and Hill) a good 3 tech DL (Lavalais) and a solid..maybe under-rate at the time...NT (Kyle Williams).

For example, DE M. Spears dropped into zone coverage during the 2003 Championship game with Okla and comes away with a INT pick 6.

Quick..name the LBs from 2003? If you could do that in 5 seconds either you are like Rainman or really know LSU football. Why? Because that defensive line with very good safeties and CBs covered up the rather average linebacker corp.

Also remember in that same year, Saban converted a safety into a LB (Eric Alexander) due to a lack of LBs. It was a very wise move.

I never was a fan of Chavis' system. The pros include it is easy to implement (as evident by TxAggie defense improvement this year), but it was all based on speed and aggression. Not much discipline. And it was predictable. I think the athletes are available in LA and surrounding area for a more advance defense.

Can Steele pull it off? Dunno how much time he has left at LSU. I think we can see the beginning of it this year. Having Ed Orgeron coaching is a huge plus. He knows the system and knows the type of player it needs, especially on the DL and coverage.

Thats a very good point

The DLine and the Secondary were the stars under Saban and Pellini

with a few exceptions.

I think that is the way we are moving recruiting DE like Glenn Logan. I think a 4-3 Under allows us to maximize the talent we have on the team and build in Louisiana.

Big DTs and fast DE/OLB types but not as many true LBs

Also we would have a better chance with all those players we lose because "they fit mama's system better"

Lionel Turner, Cam Vaughn and Eric Alexander. I think Adrian Mayes was somewhere floating around at OLB too. what do I win?

I was. just wasn't a fan of his inability to recruit to it consistently.
