I know everyone is having a grand ole time with King's comments, but I think almost universally everyone is focused on the wrong thing. Most here have heard of Jimmy Sexton, and know his reputation, but aren't putting two and two together on this.

LSU leadership made mind-numbingly obvious mistakes in the weeks leading up to any public comment. No matter who you believe leaked it, the leaks that not only was Miles about to be fired but Jimbo was the one and only candidate to replace him absolutely cripped LSU at the negotiation table.

You gave Jimmy Sexton, the best in the business, leverage. Leaking that Miles is gone paints LSU into a corner. You have to fire him, or risk him becoming a lame duck. Next, to presumably get the last few boosters on board, you sell them on replacing Miles with Jimbo. All week the talking point is "you don't make this move without a better guy lined up, and the boosters have their guy, there's a plan." You just let Sexton know you are all in on his client, and likely don't have a plan B.

So now, look at the timeline. For two weeks, "insiders" proclaim that Miles is 100% done, and that Jimbo has agreed to terms. King knows the number, the BOS knows the number. There is no wavering, the plan is in motion. Then, two days before everything is supposed to go down, King and Alleva just magically get cold feet and the whole thing falls apart?

What is more logical of these two scenarios?

A) After knowing the terms for two weeks and essentially cutting the legs out from under the coach, Alleva and King simply have a change of heart. Jimbo and Sexton, out of the goodness of their hearts and love for LSU, don't raise the price a dime.

B) Sexton recognizes he has LSU absolutely bent over a barrel, and asks for an unreasonable amount of money after an already large deal was agreed upon. King and Alleva have very little choice but to decline after recognizing they've been had.

I agree with you 100%

And, it underscores the absolute "mind-numbing" incompetence to start this process publicly without being 100% sure that you have Jimbo. the buyout money was committed based on Jimbo. The BOS approval was based on Jimbo.

Alleva bombed. And, King is using this circumstance as a platform to campaign for more money for the university (at the expense of the football program).
