The Arizona Cardinals’ Tyrann Mathieu leads all corners with an overall ranking of 10.5. But here’s the thing: Mathieu isn’t a cornerback. He’s a safety.

Yet with as much slot corner as he’s played in Arizona’s nickel defense, he may as well be considered a cornerback. Of 308 snaps this season, he’s played 203 at various cornerback positions -- from slot on both sides to wide on both sides.

“I like them both,” Mathieu said. “Corners get paid more. I don’t know what to say because I like playing safety and obviously I want to be one of the best safeties in the league, but I feel like I don’t really have that chance because I play cornerback, I play nickel, I’m playing on the outside. I don’t know, man.”
