Alleva didn't have to lie. He simply needed to state:

"It is the policy of the athletic department to evaluate ALL coaches EVERY year AFTER the season is over. Any commentary or rumores relating to Les Miles' coaching future at LSU are not based in fact and did not originate from me or the athletic department".

After that statement Alleva can then do, in good faith, whatever he wants when the season is over. The man completely botched the situation.

Isn't that pretty much what he said? And ESPN and the other hacks ignored it.
