We are lightning and a bowl win away from a 10 win season.
I've just about had it with the "10 win season" standard.
Back when I was a kid, we had 11 game seasons and no SEC championship game. And there were far fewer bowl games. So, at most, teams played 12 games, and to even make it to a bowl game was a pretty nice accomplishment. A 10 win season then was fantastic.
Nowadays, we play 12 regular season games, possible conference championship games, and 80 of 127 teams go to bowls.
That's 13-14 games. And 3-4 of those are cupcakes and a couple more are against weaker SEC teams. So that's 5 or 6 guaranteed wins right there.
And how we get there can be misleading. If we go 9-3 regular season and get trounced in 3 conference games (like this year) and then win a shitty bowl, there's your 10 wins. Nothing to be too proud of in that scenario.
So having a "10 win season" looks great, but if you actually dissect it, it's often not as great as it's made out to be. Not for a team that aspires to greatness.
Flame away.

And YET, Miles almost lost his job. I almost remember even some of his staunchest supporters here admitting it was time for him to go.
That should tell you two related things that, on a more honest Rant, wouldn't have to be argued anymore:
1. Record isn't everything, so 82%, I mean 80%, I mean 78%, isn't where the conversation should end.
2. 10 wins is nice, but it's not necessarily anywhere near winning championships and shouldn't be used as a barometer for success
But now that we are a couple weeks removed from unavoidable proof that Les had failed again to create a championship caliber team, we get to go through the yearly apologetics ritual where we are assured that Les really is a top notch coach.
