Illinois has a huge mess going that has mostly gone unnoticed outside of the Big Ten. They're now sitting with an Interim Chancellor who fired their athletic director, appointed an Interim Athletic Director who in turn signed their interim head football coach to a 2 year deal.
But then again it's gotta be difficult to hire for a position in which a coach has had zero sustained success during any tenure. They haven't had a conference record over .500 in football in 9 years and that was Ron Zook's only successful team. Illinois is a graveyard for head coaches
They've lost their basketball identity after the Thomas firing of Bruce Weber. Groce isn't the man for the job either. They need someone with ties to Chicago.
