Its a damn shame that people today dont have respect for other peoples stuff. As others have said previously that this is stealing. Throw in the fact that they shot it with a .22 makes this a whole lot worse.After its all said and done I would say something to the kid you helped out and treated so well. I would explain to him that you will not be helping him any longer and that actions have consequences.
