When someone hunts with me trying to shoot their first deer I tell them exactly what the guy told me that let me shoot my first deer. "You're shooting unless a big boy walks out then I'm shooting him"

I think that's fine because you tell them in advance. If it were my future son or a nephew or something I'd let them shoot it.

When I was 13 and my cousin was 10, we were sitting together with only my .243. We had a deal that if a 6 point came out he got to shoot, a 7 point I got to shoot, 8 point he shoots, etc. An 8 point came out at dark and my cousin had my gun in his hands. I asked him to give me the gun so I could "count the points". As soon as he handed me my gun, the buck just slightly picked his head up, but I said "he's running" and I shot it. I kind of felt bad because my cousin had never shot anything above a 4 point, but he got over it and my uncles still give him a hard time about it 20 years later

That was the message i received when hunting with my dad.

I thought it was horse crap...but it never actually happened, so i'm over it.
