re: Bathing your large breed dog in colder months... where do you?

I've got a GSP. I was told you're not supposed to bathe them so I never have. If we're at the house in the city and she gets muddy somehow and I don't want that inside I just hose that part of her off. Never used soap on her though. She doesn't smell like labs do so it's not really an issue for me and her coat always looks great so it doesn't seem to be a need for her either.
