Yes you have to take an 8 hour class that includes live shooting, as well as pass a background check and be fingerprinted. You must renew the class every 5 years.

Getting a CCP in LA is tougher than most states, and that is why we have such great reciprocity. Other states know that LA doesn't just hand out CCP's so they honor it. I doubt Alabama has much reciprocity outside of the state.
