Why would anyone want to shoot a cartridge that was developed in the 1800's and can't be factory loaded for modern guns because someone might plug a round into an old gun and blow it up? I guess the thought of shooting grandpa's gun is appealing.

Some people realize that it doesn't take a 300 WSM or some similar cartridge to kill a deer. If you never shoot at deer over 150 yards, there's no reason to own any other caliber really. It kills deer dead. All that being said, a 30-30 really isn't about the cartridge, it's about the rifles they are chambered in. They are short, light, and handle well.

Yup, it's nice to have a rifle that doesn't stick out over your shoulder when you're walking through the woods

For stalkers and brush shooting, it would be counterproductive to move around with a bolt gun. A bolt doesn't really start to shine until about 150 yards.

How many Louisiana deer are taken at 200 yards? 300 yards? 1 in 8? 1 in 10? Even from a stand, most shots are 75 to 125 yards - at most.
