The Horwitz brothers, Samuel (Shemp), Moses (Moe), and Jerome (Curly) that were, at various times part of the Three Stooges were all raised in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Shemp was the oldest and Shemp and Moe were in the Vaudeville version of the Stooges first. They were originally billed behind Ted Healy as "Ted Healy and his Stooges" and the 4 (along with middle Stooge, Larry Fine) made 1 film together - similar to what the Marx Brothers were doing - Soup to Nuts - which was directed by none other that Rube Goldberg.

But Shemp decided to pursue a solo career - and was replaced by Curly. Moe, Larry and Curly left Ted Healy a couple of years later and the rest, as they say, is history.

No one seriously questions that Curly was the funniest. And died so young. Along with Harpo Marx, all physical comedy since has been influenced by Curly Howard.

The one where they make fun of Nazis.

The one where they work at the gas station.

The one where they're wearing the graduation outfits.

My favorites.

I always forget the names of them but the names make me laugh too.

I'll Never Heil Again

Shemp was easily the funniest. Curly hads his moments but Shemp was consistently the best of the Stooges.
