Sling tv has espn and a $5 extra sports package with sec network and others. That's $25 total per month. Watch the CBS, Fox, etc. games in hd with an antenna.

Hmmmm...interesting. Right now, I'm paying $225 for cable, which only includes 2 HBO channels. On top of that, paying $75.00 for internet.

I really need to find an alternative. I only watch like 3-5 channels consistently. Don't use DVR, so don't care about that.

Is it possible to still be able to have access to all the big games, and cut the cord? If so, how?

i cut cable about a year ago and watch every college football game i care about every weekend.

-slingtv with sports package is $25/month. you can either watch the games on sling or the watchespn app. that takes care of espn, espn2, espnU, espnnews, and the SEC network.

-ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX are free in gloriously uncompressed high definition over the air. buy an antenna.

Can a cord cutter answer this:

what would you do if you weren't allowed to mooch/pirate TV programming in any way?

What would the costs be to ethically cut the cord and still get a decent amount of programming?
If I wouldn't be able to "mooch"--I define that as using someone else's cable provider login information to stream from cable apps like ESPN, Disney, etc.--I would likely do without until it became apparent that I really missed it.

Now, I don't consider sharing of Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime, HBO Now and MLB.TV subscriptions "mooching". That's just being smart. I don't feel bad about it, either.

So, to catch live sports on the the cable networks like CBS, FOX, etc. I just bought an indoor antenna for $50. I purchase HBO Now for $15 and I share that with my lady and her sister...the three of us share Hulu, Netflix, HBO Now, MLB.TV and Amazon Prime. It's a perfect little TV content crime ring.

just another day for us to cringe at what baby boomers say - move along - nothing to see here folks.

OK, this is getting me very excited. I have a smart tv. I assume HD antenna is easy to find.

What about other channels? I do like to watch History, Discovery, and maybe a few other channels. Can I still get access to them?

And I assume I would need to keep my cable for Internet, which is fine. But if I could cut down that other $225.00 to around $50, I would be elated.

But, I still want to get that clear HD picture. One more thing, do I need an antenna for each TV I use, or can I hook all of them to one?

Thanks,

festus, buddy. you are getting bent over. i have cox's 50mpbs internet, full price $67. that is about 35mbps more than you really need.

as far as your $225 cable, i'd at least drop that shite down to the TV essential package if you're not ready to cut the cord. 50 channels including HD and ESPNs.

if someone offers a reasonably priced cable package - id gladly jump on board. but just lol at paying $100s of dollars for channels i mostly would never watch.

its like music streaming, i gladly pay google $9 bucks a month to stream music monthly.

give me a tv package with the same content, with online streaming, and they can have my money.

until ill "illegally" watch espn for free.

Sad thing is I've had my account with Cox for like 25 years. You would think I would get treated better. They will lower my bill when I call complaining, but over the next year, it will continually increase until it exceeds the prior year. I'm sick of dealing with it.

Just rip the bandaid off, Festus. I would recommend getting all the apps you need downloaded onto your Smart TV first and fiddling with them. That will make you realize that you're getting bent over on cable.

An indoor or outdoor HD antenna will cost you between $50-$150 depending on what you go with, but it's a one time cost...one cable bill.

i think slingtv does have history, but maybe not discovery. visit the website and see. it's internet based, though...you have to stream it. this turns a lot of people off. it's not as automatic and easy to use as cable. also, you might need an amazon firestick, firebox, appletv, or roku or something to actually get the slingtv app. it may not be available for you through your smart tv interface.

if it's too much, i'd definitely look into changing your tv package if you're only watching a few channels.

OK, thanks. I just wanted to make sure I can still watch all the big games. But I spend over $300.00 every month for cable, and am always having problems. Had cable guy out 6 times in 2 months. They finally told me the cable in my wall to the TV was antiquated. Because of 2 stories, they said they wouldn't touch it, and I would have to get electrician to replace inside cable, in order to get best picture.

F*ck that, they won't even upgrade my cables.

ha, i was a customer over 10 years. called to tell them i was dropping it, and they didn't even try to stop me. i thought the retention department would try to offer me a better price, but no, nothing..they just raised my internet b/c i wasn't bundling tv anymore and tried to tell me a lie about over-the-air channels not being available anymore.

i do like their internet, though. i wish there was a 25mbps package for half as much as the 50mbps. 50 is overkill.

Just for Festus' FYI, Fire TV Sticks are $39. Apple TV's are anywere from $70 refurbs to $99 new. You can get a Fire TV Stick with Kodi sideloaded with a bunch of TV addon apps on ebay or do it yourself. I have a Fire TV Stick, but my GF has a Fire TV with Kodi and it's awesome. The amount of new and old movies on the Genesis addon is incredible.

Where do you live, though? I live outside of Baton Rouge and I get the ones I need, but CBS gets grainy at times. That's just because I don't have the antenna in an optimal spot probably. I bought mine for $60, but like a douche I did a lot of research.

I didn't know CBS had a streaming service...do they have an app or is it just on the web?
