Worst pain I ever had was when I had kidney stones in April 2014. It started with sharp, but pounding pain in my back at work one morning. I could not get comfortable in any position. I took off early to go home and stretch out not knowing what it was. Every bump that pickup truck hit on the way home was murder.
The pain moved around toward my groin after I got home. My wife works at a hospital and she knew it was a kidney stone and told me that I need to go to the doctor. I kept telling her it will be fine and it will pass but it just kept getting so much worse.
It felt like I was being stabbed in the groin and hit with a hammer in the junk simultaneously. Honestly no other way to describe it. I finally agreed to go to the hospital but I couldn't move for a while.
The pain eventually subsided a little when it moved into my bladder and she drove me to the hospital. They gave me nice drugs. It kind of dulled the sharp, stabbing pain for the rest of the stone's trip out....but the pounding pain was still there.
Weird night to be on strong pain killers. We had a tornado outbreak that night in the Memphis area and my wife and I were up watching the news alerts.
Had another kidney stone pass when I was in Istanbul on business a year later but I just toughed it out in the hotel room that night. It was nowhere near as bad as the first one. Wasn't interested in going to a hospital in Turkey either.
I drink a lot of water now and cut back on the caffeine. Don't want to go through that again.
