I thought it was a good movie but it just didn't scare me. And it wasn't an issue of the genre not being scary to me bc ghost movies typically scare me the most. For example, Woman in Black scared the shite out of me but my brother thought it was lame and thought The Conjuring was scary.
I'm different. I don't judge a horror movie's quality on how much it scared me. It's not to say that mvies don't or can't ever scare me, but I find it doesn't happen often, or if I'm not scared, I'm at least on the edge of my seat (and I'm not talking about cheap jump scares).
I liked The Conjuring for one main reason. Sure, it was creepy and all that, but the biggest problem with supernatural-type movies like that are that they never seem to have a solid, fulfilling ending...it just seems like directors never really know how to end their movies. But The Conjuring had a solid ending, so I liked it a lot. Most movies taht deal with supernatural ghosts and the like, I find myself liking them up until the end and then the failure to wrap things up well leaves me disappointed (looking at you, The Devil Inside...also things like The Last Exorcism, or even Babadook to use one from this thread).

I really like the Conjuring as well. Besides, the hide and clap scene is one of the most legit terrifying scenes I've ever seen. Also, almost all of the actions of the characters are logical (well, except the kids, but kids do illogical things because kids suck... my daughter would totally sell me out to the ghost world by accident). The movie also has a legit cast, solving the big issue of a lot of horror: the acting.
Yes, I know the Warrens are frauds and the whole "true story" bit is BS. I don't really care about that.
