I also have a WPG. He is 8 months old and has been at an upland bird dog trainer for the last two months. In the few reports I've gotten, the trainer said he was very smart and took instruction well. He said he has a good nose and loves to retrieve.
I am going to hunt some preserve quail/ pheasant over him this weekend and then it's off to South Dakota on the 30th for 10 days of wild birds. I will report back after the trip.
We may get an opportunity to do some duck hunting while there, it will be interesting to see how he switches from running the prairie to a blind.

SD is a lottery state for non-resident waterfowl. You would have needed to apply for the lottery over the summer...
