I'd imagine it is because we wear very few alternates, so people enjoy the change of pace that an alternate brings.
Personally I believe our purple jerseys have great potential with different color schemes so I'm excited to see the white/white combo today.

Were the white helmets a way to identify with SC's flooding drama? (Thinking back to the Katrina game in the Dome.. white helmets, purple jersey)
