since the oil derrick logo and Luv Ya Blue was such a big part of the city.
maybe if the fricking dallas cowboys didn't own Houston at the time and the city built the oilers a new stadium they would still be there.
face it, for decades there were more cowboy fans than oiler fans in Houston. the oilers were from the "inferior" AFL and the cowboys were proven winners. it's amazing how many people are "fans" only of winning teams.
in short, Houston doesn't deserve the name Oilers nor Luv Ya Blue. BUT, it would definitely be a huge marketing victory to get them back. how about BUYING THEM from the owner.

You really should talk about thinks you know nothing about. Yeah, there were always plenty of Cowboy fans in Houston, but there were still more Oiler fans and that really has nothing to do with anything. Bud Adams was not only unpopular with the fans but with the power brokers in town. He didn't own the lease to the Astrodome, the Astros did. Bud proposed a retractable roof, multi use stadium on the east side of downtown Houston. Drayton McLane and the Astros of course opposed it saying the Astrodome was fine. After Bud and Oiler left town, Drayton and the Astros suddenly didn't think the dome was so great and would have moved to the DC area unless a new stadium was build, on the east side of downtown Houston were MMP is today and were Bud had proposed his stadium. Sadly Bud had no sense of timing, proposing his stadium a week after another Oilers playoff choke.
