He's 100% correct.
College isn't job training. It's a general education along with exposure to a particular speciality. But your major doesn't determine your career.
Historically speaking an education from a university was about becoming cultured and proving you were of a higher class than others in society.

Well... I'd say the engineering curriculum is job training because if coming out of school, you can't use a certain software or perform a specific task... you're not getting hired.
BTW... LSU does an excellent job of preparing students to enter the engineering workforce in my experience.
