I'm always weary of buying guns in calibers they weren't initially designed for. PPQ was made for 9/40. I know guns are guns, buy I don't trust the changes.

I know they upsized the frame and slide to accommodate the larger round. I see where you're coming from and I think maybe wait some time for the bugs to work out. But I bet it'll be a great handgun - you know how much people already like the standard PPQ.

For a 45, a 1911 is the only answer

As for the OP, I agree with most here that your first 45 should be a 1911. The Ruger SR1911 is tough to beat in terms of value. You will not regret a single penny spent on it (commander sized one shown here).

Do you have a preference for a polymer gun? Or do you plan to carry this gun? Or is it just a home defense/recreation type gun? In that case, a full sized 45 fits the bill just fine.

I already have an XDM40 4.5 barrel and XD-9 3.5 barrel. So I don't have to have another polymer or a carry pistol. This is more an excuse just to buy a 45 since I don't have one. I've been looking at 1911's. I just can't justify the $1000+ price tags that most of them are. So getting the advice on the Springfield loaded and SR1911 is good. I'm leaning to the Loaded Stainless Steel. The best I can find it, so far, is around $750 at budsguns.
