Gut shot deer

Last night at dusky dark, I shot a big main frame eight point that I've gotten pretty familiar with over the past month or so. He came down the trail exactly as I had imagined, I felt good about the shot, which was approximately 20 yards, as the arrow left. My luminok disappeared and I could immediately tell it was high and back. The arrow had hair and fat in the broadhead, a little bit of clear (saliva like) skim on the arrow and fletchings. No blood in the immediate vicinity, so I backed out. I returned this morning with a dog and didn't have any luck finding blood or deer. In your opinion, is the deer fatally wounded? What should be my next course of action?
