Coaches aren't subjected to the salary cap. You could pay Lebron 30 million to be the coach and it would take up no cap space. Assuming chalmette owl is correct that it's not allowed under the CBA, this is probably a reason why. It could be used as a way to pay beyond a max contract and get around the salary cap.
