quote:
Joe Jamail settled into his chair at home to map out his closing argument for the next morning. The case was a highly complicated business dispute between two of the largest corporations in the world—a multibillion-dollar merger gone awry. Just as Jamail picked up his pen, he heard a car horn blowing outside.
Jamail’s buddies—singer Willie Nelson and former University of Texas football coach Darrell Royal—were in a white limo, begging him to go out for a drink or two.
“I tried telling them that this was the biggest damn case of my life—hell, of anybody’s life—and that I needed to prepare,” says Jamail. “But they weren’t having any part of it. They kept me up all fricking night drinking. I could barely see straight the next morning.”
He made $400 million the next day.

I remember years ago accompanying a client to a deposition that was taken by one of the few lawyers I didn't particularly appreciate. During the deposition my client was getting annoyed. I figured that I'd shake things up a bit. So, I passed my client a note in a sneaky way that I knew my opponent would see.
When my opponent saw me pass the note, he demanded that my client read the note into the record. I objected and feigned arguing the point. Finally, I relented and told my client to read the note, which read, "Just answer this guy's questions. I know that they don't make much sense and his questions are not very artfully drawn, but what do you expect from a pompous a-hole who thinks he knows it all?"
It's not as funny as the link and there were no fisticuffs, but the court reporter had to stifle a laugh.
