Mars ‘Truthers’ React to NASA’s Water Announcement

Everyone knows about the Rush comments, but it was only a matter of time before the nutjobs came crawling out of the woodwork.

On his radio show Monday, Rush Limbaugh dismissed NASA’s announcement, saying the agency was falsifying data and promoting claims about climate change. “There’s so much fraud,” he said. “What's to stop them from making up something that happened on Mars that will help advance their left-wing agenda on this planet?” An image for the segment on Limbaugh’s website depicts the face of former Vice President Al Gore superimposed over that of aliens from the 1996 film Mars Attacks!.
Other people questioned whether it was a coincidence that the announcement came a few days before 20th Century Fox releases The Martian, about an astronaut stranded on Mars. NASA denied that it scheduled the announcement to coincide with the movie release, to Yahoo News.

However, at least one conspiracy theorist predicted the new findings 15 years ago. Richard Hoagland, co-author of the 2007 New York Times best-seller Dark Mission: The Secret History of NASA and a former NASA consultant, reported in 2000 that his research team had found present-day water on Mars in satellite imagery.
Hoagland has previously told Newsweek that NASA imagery shows remnants of extraterrestrial civilizations, and that NASA is breaking the news to the public subtly, in order to avoid a panic, as suggested in the 1960 Brookings Report that the agency commissioned.
Hoagland and his colleagues have been reviewing NASA’s newly announced findings. “They’re dripping the information out to us very slowly,” says Robin Falkov, Hoagland’s longtime professional and romantic partner. “I truly wonder how fast things will go or can go.”
Ever since the moon landing, some people have met major NASA announcements with skepticism. Mars conspiracists have previously questioned objects that appear in photographs from the Mars Pathfinder and Mars Curiosity rover. Earlier this month, people questioned what appeared to be a floating spoon in one image. NASA said the image showed a natural rock formation.

should have put Rush in the title and saved me the time.

Rush only takes up the first paragraph.

I'm righter than Rush and he's a full blown idiot.

I guess they miss where Rush reiterated that polar "ice" caps were already proven on Mars years ago. And then there was "flowing water" proven and all the idiots bit to the miracle.

He's an IRL troll.

Not a truther, but I do believe that Mars is much closer to "habitable" (although not hospitable) than NASA lets on.

Easily the dumbest thing I've heard all month. If anything, global warming on Mars is a good thing. In order to terraform the planet, that's the first step is to pump out as many toxic greenhouse gases as possible, something more formidable than CO2.
Trying to answer the question "Are we alone?" is now to these idiots "Al Gore wants to prove we are killing the planet, and thus they all have a left-wing agenda to raise taxes for all corporations." Rush has to be borderline insane in order to make that jump in logic. Surely he's trolling.

For a moment, I thought Geddy Lee was saying stupid things.
Although it would give an entirely new meaning to their song New World Man.

Rush is right wing conspiracy theory at it's finest. What a loon.

I don't presume to know why governments do anything, but they've been caught in lies about Mars a few times. The whole "Red PLanet" thing has been proven to be false, though with little fanfare.
Maybe I'm just hopeful. Humanity's only insurance against extinction is to colonize another planet. Mars is our best option until warp drive.
