It's definitely no "Skyfall", although it tries hard to be. It has all of the elements: lush orchestration, key changes, minor chords, and dramatic transitions.

It just misses. Smith and his writers should have tried something completely different. They tried to write "Skyfall II", which, IMO is a top 3 Bond song. Although they didn't whiff, it was certainly a foul tip into the catcher's mitt (maybe I should have used a cricket reference?).

Justin Timberlake's falsetto has nothing on Smith's.

On NPR this morning, Smith said he wrote the vocals in like 20 minutes and used the vocals from the demo as the final version. I don't know how to take that.

The theme is fine. Skyfall has a great theme. This one is ok.

It won't have an effect on my opinion of the movie though.

My thoughts exactly. The only reaction I had to this song was that now I have "Skyfall" stuck in my head again.
