That's just not accurate in my opinion. Current iPhones and every higher end Android phone I can think of have ac wifi. As do the current generation MacBooks, Chromebooks, Surface tablets, new Apple TV, and probably the upcoming Chromecast.
It's particularly important if your devices are in relatively close proximity to the router (when you can utilize the 5 Ghz band). For 30% more, you're future proofing yourself.

That's your opinion and that's fine, but the devices you mentioned only make up a small fraction of all devices out there.
Additionally, AC routers essentially eliminate the need for the 5GHz band since you can get the speed of N@5GHz with AC@2.4GHz.
