I'm not concerned with a small drop in mileage. The problem will be reliability. They almost certainly did this because the emissions control equipment couldn't handle continuous operation. They're going to band aide tune it because they have to, and it's going to die.
My issue is any service work has to be done by me now, and I don't want to change the damn timing belt on this thing myself.

They'll be a class action suit brought (and won) and paid out with regard to this issue.
VW might opt to do wholesale buy-backs, but they'll still be those who opt-out and take their chances on the results of the suit(s).
Is this the same TDI powerplant that M-B uses and how does that affect them?
