The main thing that turns me off to ACOGs is the fact that they have a fixed magnification. That plus the eye relief is a bit strange. Then again, I don't have any time behind one so my opinion may not hold any water.
I prefer an adjustable low power optic (like a 1-4x or 2-7x) so that I can vary the power level if I have to do some shooting upclose. If you were to get the ACOG, as suggested by the other poster, I would also get an unmagnified dot for close range.
Trijicon seems to be the only one who has perfected using fiber optics and tritium to illuminate their reticles. I had an RMR on my handgun and just swapped it for another RMR. Their products are expensive but they are true military grade and will last forever.
