Been thinking about getting some laying hens. In your opinion, is this box big enough for 4? Built it for a puppy but am done with that now, and it's just sitting in my yard. 12' x 5' with back box - 3.5' x 5'.

Thanks

Looks big enough to me for 4 birds. I used to keep 5 in my coop of similar size. Now I just let them roam the backyard.

3-4 no problem. Keep them in the pen with brooder boxes in closed in area. Throw a few golf balls in with beding material. They will begin to sit on them & that's where they will lay their eggs. After a few weeks have you a ladder set up & they should go in & out to roost/lay. We are just getting started with chickens tho. That's our game plan.

You should have 4 sq ft per chicken. That should be good for 4 hens.
