Saw two cottonmouths mating (or it might have been males fighting) right on the bank of a river while I was wade fishing. They were twisting around each other like a caduceus and rising up about 4 feet out of the water like that. It was freaking freaky. I took a video of it.

I've seen cottonmouths in that spot almost every time I've waded that river, too. Unfortunately, the best smallie hole is right past the cottonmouth area.

My kids and I were driving through a state park campground after swimming in a lake there. Probably midday. A great horned owl swooped out of the trees and landed in the road right in front of us. Just stood there for a bit then took off again.

I've spent a lot of time in nature and never seen one in the wild up close and on the ground. I tried to explain to my kids who freaking cool and rare it was to see that, but I don't think they were impressed, beyond just thinking they'd seen a cool owl.
