My thinking was I could have a, what I hope to be decent, suppressor for my ar in the $350 range with the stamp, vs $200 stamp and more like $800 for the suppressor. $1k is just money I cant justify

What caliber are you wanting to suppress? I could see making a .22 can for poops and gigs. If you are talking 30cal or larger, that's too much risk for me. Maybe 45acp would be okay, but then we get back into the why area.
So, once we get past the safety aspect, we get into the effective aspect. How much less effective is a Maglite can vs a AAC? I don't know.
Again, all my opinion. I don't have the money for all the cans I want, so I don't have them. I have a SDN-6 and will get an Octane for pistols. Two suppressors, all firearms (minus .22 which a Maglite can would be cool).
