Prior to my 1st child we had a sit down with our "soon to be" Pediatrician to discuss what to expect. We discussed a number of things and vaccines were include. The Hep B caught my attention and I asked him why it was recommended right after birth. He said that was a relatively new change in the schedule at the time and when it happened the Drs weren't given much info on why it was moved up so early in schedule.

He informed me how HepB can be contracted (sexual activity is highest % which obviously is not a concern with a 1 day old) other than that it would be a freak thing especially if your kid was not to be in daycare at an extremely early age. He recommended it to be delayed to when he normally used to administer.

My wife had some vaccine concerns related to things she had read. He listened to her thoughts and had clear answers based on the vaccine research and his 20+ years as a Pediatrician. We had some concerns about multiple vaccines at 1 time in regards to if there was a side effect/reaction then how would we know the cause. He explained that we could easily alter the schedule to allow 1 vaccine at a time and still be in the ballpark time frame for being completely vaccinated. We had some concerns about the Chicken Pox vaccine and he gave us his feelings (see previous post on this).

IMO that is how the vaccine discussion should be handled.
