Yea but people who have their own prejudices or biases don't want to just come out and say that a black Bond would make them uncomfortable. They'd rather cling to bullshite reasons

I'm not prejudiced or biased in any way. But if you are going to take a traditionally white character and have him portrayed by a black guy, then I'd like to know the reason? What does it add to the character? As I said before, in Bonds particular case you just soft rebooted the series three movies prior with Daniel Craig. You've got it set up with a new M, and Bond about to encounter his old nemesis Spectre. So what purpose does it serve to suddenly switch Bonds race, 50 years into the series?

FWIW, I thought casting a black guy as Johnny Storm was stupid, and I think changing the Ghostbusters to all female is stupid and pandering as well.

Because Daniel Craig did not sign a contract for infinite Bond films.

If you're going to have to recast Bond either way, why not go with the best actor you can find that is capable of bringing Bond to life? When you list off traits of what you think "defines" Bond, myself (and many others) feel that Elba allows you to check every box except race.

It's already been proven that physical resemblance to the Bond from the books is really, really, really far down on the list when it comes to casting Bond, so it's really a non-issue for a lot of Bond fans.

This wasn't stupid, and it could have been a good decision, but the rest of the terrible decisions in this film make this one look way worse than it actually is.

Well that is CLEARLY pandering. That's why. And this one is why we have discussions like we are currently having. Ghostbusters mucks up entire conversations like this because it's crap pandering, stunt casting with no value ruining something that's well loved and nostalgic.

The reason? The actor is good and will make bank at the box office. There. Sorted.
