Bingo. There's a difference between going to Ranger School and getting your Ranger tab and actually serving in a Ranger Battalion.

FWIW, the Navy has always had trouble meeting their SEAL recruitment numbers and they paid $500,000. for a study to determine the type of candidate that was most likely to complete BUDS, and this was the summary. And per the article playing chess triples your chances of success.
