Chad is correct but depending on the model vehicle you choose you can probably pull 8000 lbs. but, as you probably know, you shouldnt tap out towing capacity.
Remember, water, fuel, gear, 120 fingers and toes adds a lot of weight.
You have plenty options under 8000 lbs. Our TT is not a lite version its 26 ft long and weighs about 5200 lbs. We load it up and my suburban jerks it around fine.

You will run out of payload before you max your pull weight. Suburban has about 1700lbs of payload, pin weight if a travel trailer is usually about 110% of the trailers GVWR - pick your trailer, subtract the pin weight and your families weight and that will tell you if your safe to pull - you should also subtract the weight of a full tank of gas - you will see how quickly it is eaten up.
