Never...NFL does a couple things that makes it the best...short season with limited number of games and super-intense playoffs. It keeps people interested because every game matters. The NBA , NFL and NHL all have longer seasons, play way more games, and have less dramatic playoffs. If football were extended to an 8 month sport, 32 regular season games, and long playoffs, the ratings would nose dive.
