So who thinks "Wins" is a stat worth a shite for MLB pitchers?

Drew Hutchison won Wednesday despite allowing seven runs -- three earned -- in five innings against the Twins.
The guy is 10-2 this season with a 5.42 ERA. The nine runs the Jays scored for him tonight hardly looks out of place. They've scored at least six runs in his last six starts (two of which they lost anyway). They've scored doubles figures in his starts three times, and they've never once failed to score at least three runs in his 22 outings

Yeah, I was reading Yahoo comments on the game, and some Jays fans were like "we gotta pull this guy out of the rotation."
Don't get me started on TD passes or TD/Int ratio....

I was LOLing at the Blue Jays for clearly leaving him to get that last out when he was obviously going to give up a few more runs. Almost cost them the game but as usual Ole Baw Hutch got the Dubya

Rafael Soriano is 2-0 with the Cubs with a 6.35 ERA, a 6.80 FIP and a 1.588 WHIP. He's given up 8 hits (2 of them HR) in 5.2 IP.

Nobody that follows baseball closely, but your win/loss record can be indicative of your peripherals.

I don't think it's worth a whole lot. It definitely is not the main indicator of a pitcher's success and Hutchinson is a perfect example. If he played for the Cubs, he'd be 2-10 with a 5.42 ERA. Blue Jays just score a ton of runs.

Not the be-all, but not irrelevant, either. It's one piece of a puzzle.

Nathan Eovaldi is 11-2 with a 4.30 ERA.
Not that 4.30 is completely terrible or anything, but probably not good enough to warrant 11 wins.

The objective of playing is to win the game. How you win them is less important than winning them.

Wasn't this an issue with Roger Clements one year with the Yankees? He won the Cy Young and had a great win-loss record but a very high ERA, because the Yankees would score 5, 6, or 7 runs a game.
