re: What type of shooting rest do you use at the range for long guns?

I understand using a mechanical rest to check if your rifle is still sighted in right, but after the first 3 or 4 shots, I don't see the point of it.

The reason I go to a range is to keep my own mechanics sharp. Breathing, sight picture, trigger pressure etc..

Need to actually be holding the rifle for that
yes, sometimes I jerk the trigger, sometimes I am not breathing just right, so my targets don't always look like a work of art,but that is why I am at the range, to work on that shite.

If I use very good ammo,in a solid weapon and I measure and check it closely,do my calculations for windage etc.. and make adjustments accordingly, then I am the only unpredictable part of the equation. The goal is to make myself more predictable..as far as final results are concerned.
