I've never outright told them, but I have handed over my GFL (Georgia) with my license and the cop looked it over, handed it back and said "thanks, but I won't need this."

Never asked me anything else about it. I've also had a couple of wrecks where I was not at fault (not that it matters) and I haven't mentioned it because it just didn't seem necessary at the time.
