Why would you tell an officer you had a gun unless he asks?
it all depends on a persons mindset tbh.

Put yourself in a cops shoes for a second.
You pull someone over for speeding, pull him over and he exits his vehicle with paperwork in hand and greets you at the back of his vehicle. Notifies you that there is a firearm in the vehicle and he's just letting you know for his safety.

You as a cop would be appreciative and you know you would. May even choose to let the driver leave with a warning.

I understand what you're saying, but I think you're offering more information than the situation calls for. I have never had an officer ask if there was anything in my vehicle he/she needs to know about. Maybe because I'm cooperative and not shady when it comes to dealing with officers. In the case they ever did ask I would disclose what I have, but it isn't necessary on a normal traffic stop.

You're then sternly told to get back in your vehicle and wait for further instruction.
