Not really. There is built in virus and firewall.

However, I stream lots of tv/movies from crappy host sites that try to slam malware on my system.

I did get lots of warning from time to time using Kaspersky which is better than Defender.

Since upgrading to 10, I have received a couple of warnings from Defender. I don't ever recall getting a warning from Defender before so maybe they jazzed it up a bit.

I do think Windows did a much better job with security with Windows 8 because I haven't been hit by a virus / malware since I first started using 8, and I got nailed several times when using Windows 7.
