Well I love Texas as well, but the cold weather in Colorado is not full of humidity so you can get warm a lot of the day's wearing a fleece. This isn't some ski mountain town type of winters. Like I said the sun shines so many times after a snow fall and melt it soon after. You will have your seasons and there will be cold days, but you are living at 6000 ft above sea level there.
The people are generally good, but you will get all kinds of different people because it has such a huge military presence. They won't probably be Eastern Texas nice, but most are good people.
Colorado football will never match Texas football, but there is some decent ball played. Air Force Academy is close for a game or two. Broncos reign supreme for most and it is big there. There is a lot to do with the different seasons. Hiking, biking, camping, hunting, snow sports, water sports are the biggest hobbies. Some very nice golf courses available too.
Denver is an hour away full of opportunity, shopping, activities, etc.
