I change mine, and do all the maintenance and most of the work on them. It's not so much to avoid the hassle, but to be sure it's done right. After a couple of bad experiences that turned into much larger costs and frustration, I will do it myself until I'm physically incapable.

Same here.

It is not about saving a few bucks. Changing your own oil allows you to monitor the current condition of the engine by looking at the consistency and the volume of oil that drains out vs the volume needed to fill it to capacity.

I do every bit of maintenance on my cars and keep the records on an spreadsheet to make sure everything is in top working order.

When a shop hires a new high school dropout, they let him sweep the shop for a few weeks and then the let him change YOUR oil. Not mine.
