and not only that it is cheaper on the back end to give them more flexibility to move him if they needed to.
They really do need to develop heir apparents at SS and C though if they don't want a drop off in 3-4 years.

For whatever reason SS has been a tough position for us over the years, we had short periods of consistency like Eckstein and Rentaria but other than that it's been pretty mediocre since Ozzie
Peralta may actually be the best one since Ozzie
I remember the days of Tony Womack (not terrible), Ronnie Belliard (rented for half a season but not bad), Tyler Green (not good enough to play enough to prove to be terrible), Ceasar Izturiz (a catastrofrick), and even Kozma (good in his role, not an everyday SS), etc.
