We will agree to disagree. If your main thing is music then I agree 2.0 is the way to go.
If your main thing, like me, is TV and movies, I much prefer 5.1

You left off the last part of my sentence--"for the most part"
The average home has an all in one box or a Best Buy receiver with 5 shitty cube sized speakers and a sub made of particle board. More often than not, these things are set up so poorly, they make TV sound worse than just stereo.
Now, I have heard movies through a few high end 5.1 rigs that were truly set up properly and it was astounding, but this comprises a very small percentage of HT set ups.
