"The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has confirmed the presence of a brain-eating amoeba at a water station in Ascension Parish.

The news comes as a meeting is going on in St. Bernard Parish where the same amoeba has also been found."

It's pretty much there every summer. Just don't dive in lakes or shoot water up your nose.

The fact that this is a recurring issue is fricking bullshite. I wonder if the parish will be refunding water bills for the next 60 days bc they didn't do their damn job.

Everyone in the treatment facility should be fired.

So much for good public schools in Ascension if the water eats your kids' brains regardless.

Do people actually swim in the disgusting brown water in Louisiana?

If you're going to use a neti pot (which you shouldn't), and use tap water for it, boil the water first. People have gotten this amoeba that way.

The amoeba is present in just about every water source in the south...it's widespread. You can't contract it by ingesting infected water. It's extremely rare to catch it even if you're swimming in infected water because the amoeba does not seek a human host.

It's not as big of a deal as people make it out to be. There has only been like 133 cases of it in the past 50 years.
