Some peoples pent up aggression just comes out the worst in road rage. They act in a way that they normally wouldn't. I think because they feel a sense of invulnerability in a vehicle and subconsciously their inner angst and stress explodes to an irrational level.
I few years ago, I left my house at 5:30am to go to my office. As I approached the traffic light a 1/4 mile before the interstate ramp, a guy in a truck was sitting at the red light. After it turned green, he sat there as if it were still red. I moved to the other lane and cruised by him before getting back in the previous lane. Guy floored it to catch up as we were approaching the interstate ramp. Then he hard cut it in front of me to get on the ramp. Okay. Then he brake checked me all the way down the ramp. Okay.
We were the only two cars in sight as we merged on the interstate. He slowed down again and I got over a lane and got up to 75mph. He rode right beside me for about a mile swerving over to within a foot or two of my car several times. He was determined to get me to look at him. So I finally looked. He had his window down screaming bloody murder at me. I rolled my passenger window down and he was dog cussing me like crazy. I just shrugged while nodding my head and yelled back over the airflow, "sorry, calm down, sorry." He immediately collected himself and gave me a thumbs up and took off like all was right again in his world.
