Any advice on spending an evening at Evangeline Downs?

The website shows that the first race the night we want to go starts at 5:40. I've never been, and would love to hear some advice. Do they have good eating on site? What time would be good to arrive? Might as well throw in some gambling advice as well.

Figure out which way the jockeys are rigging the race.

call and reserve a table to watch the races.

Call ahead and book a table up top, grand stand, sky box whatever they call it. Last time I was there it was around $20 per person and they'll have a buffet of pretty good food and you can buy your own drinks, etc. It's nice to not be in the heat, plus you can look down at the peasants below.

Arrival time is up to you. I'd get there no later than 7. Yes, dining is Ok if you sit upstairs. Decent fare, decent service. Don't expect much from the crowd. It ain't a triple crown race so don't expect ladies in hats or anything special. Go outside between the races and watch the horses. Last race should be around 10. Hit the casino if you want some slot action. Check out the bars inside. All in all a good time for what it is.

Call Virginia: 337-594-3000 for CLUBHOUSE reservations. Doors open @ 5 for clubhouse. $22 a person for buffet. You don't have to eat, if you don't, there is a $5 fee. The earlier you get there, the better seats you get. Programs are $2. Instructions on how to bet included. save money not betting on longshots. have fun
