He took potshots at the South all the time. Not that long ago, he blamed soccer's lack of popularity on backwards areas of the country, like the South, Wyoming, Montana, etc.

Funny how that stuff was perfectly fine, but the Dominican Republic remarks earned him the equivalent of a paid vacation for the remainder of his time at ESPN.
