You don't buy the argument that technology is a moot issue since the players play against each other and with equal equipment?

Greatness is greatness within a generation, but I'm just saying it's hard to compare a guy like Laver to the modern game. Most reasonable people would probably agree Mac had some of the best hands ever seen. But, could Mac growing up now even compete in today's game? I just feel like he couldn't, although IMO Borg or Lendl probably would. I know you will say this is full retard, but I have doubts Nadal would have had half the success he did without poly strings. Maybe he just ends up as Vilas or Muster. Then, there is surface stuff. The tour used to have a decent amount of fast carpet. It doesn't exist now. Anyway, enough tennis rambling.

I would like to hear from some of the distance running dorks. I thought there has been a flurry of high school kids hitting 4:00 miles lately. Or, that masses of women are quickly advancing their marathon times (I think Grantland had something) and doing some remarkable things at ultra distance running.

Did two people in here claim it is Bolts starts that make him so good?

I won't do that, but I will ask you why you think that.

More specifically, I'll ask why you question whether Nadal would have had success when Borg had as much success as he did. I'm certain I've said this before on here, but I think Nadal is basically Borg 2.0.

I'd chalk it up to better, smarter training. I can see how sports/events that require a great deal of endurance or a great deal of skill will progress for a longer period of time than sports/events where its just about pure speed or pure strength.
